It's a special episode! We asked a panel of New Zealand drinkers and industry types to unpack GABS New Zealand Hottest 100. The first time the list has been announced in NZ, and the first time we've handed over the reins completely. No Dave, no Luke... instead we have Megan Whelan (RNZ Community Engagement Editor), Llew Bardecki (Wild and Woolly), Steph Coutts (Craft Beer College), Dylan Jauslin (The Bottleneck). What a lineup! Hear them talk all about GABS H100 and NZ beer.
This week we visited Dan Dainton from Dainton Family... he's unsure. But it's a brewery and brewpub in Carrum Downs (Melbourne). We spoke to Dan way back when he was starting out as a contract brewer and now he told us how is brand has changed and matured. We learned all about the troubles that growth brings, and how Dan has dealt with them.
This week we speak to Steve Jeffares, all about the GABS Hottest 100 beer poll. The annual poll gets increasing amount of attention and criticism and in our chat we cover everything. Things such as having too many pale ales at the top, beers no one has ever tried landing in the list, and the "Change the Date" campaign are all discussed.. In addition, Steve updated us about Stomping Ground as well as their support of Midsumma festival and their mentoring program for LGBTQIA+ artists. It's a rollercoaster of a show!
Full show notes:
We venture into the heart of class-war torn Footscray to speak to Hop Nation. A couple of Kiwi wine makers have become firm podcast favourites and we learn how that happened. We also complain about the heat, talk cricket, and some other stuff. You know how this works by now.

This is our annual awards show. With four awards up for offer we share our Beer Of The Year, Most Improved Brewery, Brewery To Watch In 2017, and 2016 Brewery Of The Year. Also, Luke offers put on some vinyl next time Dave is over; and Dave really outs his lack of hip hop knowledge... something he has never claimed to have, but still. Also, a fluffy dog runs past.
Today there was no Dave, so instead we asked Tom Delmont from Fixation and Will Ziebell (Froth Magazine and Crafty Pint) to join the show. Tom told us all about Fixation, fresh IPAs and we talked punk rock, plans for a Fixation brewpub, as well as getting some tips on how to be a beer rep. Then Will told us tales of history. We learned about Melbourne buildings and breweries, the Rum Rebellion, and the Emu Wars. What a bloody show.
